Correction versus filling
There are two ways to make swirl marks disappear. One is to level the clear coat down to the base of the defect, which removes it permanently. The other is to fill the scratches with glaze or polymer so they don't catch light — which looks identical on collection day and washes out in two months.
A lot of what's sold as "buffing" in this city is the second thing. It's not fraud exactly, but it's why people are surprised when the swirls come back before spring. Real correction is measured, staged, and permanent.
Where the damage comes from
Almost none of it comes from driving. The overwhelming majority of swirl marks on cars in Mississauga come from washing — specifically from automatic brush washes, from single-bucket sponge washing that drags grit around the panel, and from drying with a towel that has grit in it. A black car that's been through a brush wash weekly for three years will look like it was polished with steel wool under direct sun.
The rest is environmental: sap and bird etching, industrial fallout from the airport and 401 corridor, and salt-related oxidation on older single-stage paint.
Stages, and how we choose
One stage — a polish that removes light swirls and restores gloss. Right for newer cars and anything that's been reasonably cared for. Typically recovers 60–80% of the defects.
Two stage — a cutting compound to level deeper defects, then a finishing polish to refine the gloss. This is the standard for a car that's seen brush washes. Typically 85–95%.
Three stage — heavy cut, refine, finish. For badly neglected or oxidised paint, and only where clear coat readings allow it.
We won't chase the last 5% on a daily driver. Removing a deep scratch entirely can mean taking more clear coat than the panel can spare, and a slightly imperfect panel is far better than one that needs a respray in three years.
Why we use a depth gauge
Factory clear coat is roughly 40–60 microns. Each correction stage removes a few. A panel that's already been resprayed or corrected twice may not have enough left to work with safely.
We take readings across every panel and show you the numbers. If a panel can't take correction, we say so and leave it — that's the difference between a shop and a guy with a polisher.

Protect it afterwards
Corrected paint with no protection goes back to swirled within a year of the same washing habits. Every correction here finishes with at least a sealant. Most customers step up to a ceramic coating, which is why the coating packages include the correction — doing them together costs less than doing them separately.

Will it remove this scratch?
Run a fingernail across it. If your nail doesn't catch, it's in the clear coat and correction will almost certainly remove it. If it catches, it's through to the base coat or primer and polishing won't fix it — that's a paint repair, and we'll tell you rather than take your money.
How long does it last?
The correction itself is permanent — that clear coat is gone and the defect with it. How long it looks corrected depends entirely on how the car gets washed afterwards. Two-bucket hand washing or touchless: years. Weekly brush wash: months.
Can you correct a wrapped or PPF-covered car?
Film can be polished lightly with the right products, but it's a different process and not all films tolerate it. Tell us what's on the car when you book.
Is it worth it on an older car?
Often dramatically so — oxidised paint on a ten-year-old car can transform. The limit is clear coat thickness. On cars where the clear is already failing and flaking, polishing accelerates it. We check first and will tell you if the answer is no.
